井手宜通 IDE Nobumichi
The Luxembourg (Luxembourg) Park in Paris, with its impressive fountains and statues, has been sketched by many Japanese painters. It is interesting to see the various creative approaches, such as views from nearby buildings or compositions incorporating bronze statues. Perhaps Ide did not include statues in his paintings because he studied sculpture in addition to oil painting. The composition, capturing the main street with chestnut trees cutting across the sky, brings to mind the works of Yuzo Saeki, but unlike Saeki's intense brushwork, the scene is calm and expansive.
