IDE Nobumichi
Winter in Luxembourg

Many Japanese artists have sketched the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, with their impressive fountains and statues. It's interesting to see the various creative ideas, such as views from nearby buildings and compositions incorporating bronze statues. Perhaps the reason Ide did not include a statue in the painting is because he studied sculpture in addition to oil painting. The composition, capturing the main street and with the horse chestnut trees framing the sky, is reminiscent of the works of Saeki Yuzo, but unlike Saeki's violent brushstrokes, the painting is calm and free-flowing.
