Based on the stamped word "FIGUR" on the back of the wooden frame and a horizontal crack in the painting, which likely meant the canvas was removed from the frame and rolled up after completion, it is believed that the canvas was purchased in Belgium.Like Torajiro Kojima, Ota studied under Emile Claus at the Kent Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium, where Impressionism later spread and developed in its own unique way, rather than in France, where Impressionism originated.
This work also uses pointillism as its main technique, but the length of the strokes and the directionality that follows the shape make it a different style of painting from that of French Impressionist painters.
