熊岡義彦 KUMAOKA Yoshihiko
Kramar Temple

Yoshihiko Kumaoka was deeply impressed by Renoir. The subject of his painting, Cagnes-sur-Oise, was where Renoir spent his later years and spent countless hours sketching, making it perhaps a kind of pilgrimage for Kumaoka.
In this work, the warm colors of the tall grass stretching in a band across the center of the canvas, the rhythmically arranged trees, and the roofs of the houses are clearly contrasted with the cool colors of the sky and the roadside bushes, highlighting the presence of each element. The almost hidden houses are accentuated by the blue sky, conveying a sense of human life.
