西村計雄 NISHIMURA Keiyū
Châteaux of the Loire Valley

Many of Katsuo Nishimura's paintings feature diagonal lines added as finishing touches. It seems that his experience working part-time as a glass cleaner provided a hint that led to his distinctive painting style. Numerous castles were built in the Loire Valley over hundreds of years. This work is presumed to depict Château de Montsoreau, which faces the Loire River. However, as can be said of any of Nishimura's works, rather than focusing on the actual shapes and colors of the motifs, he values the changes in his own perception when facing the landscape, which results in bold deformations and omissions. Perhaps we should simply enjoy Nishimura's enveloping world of double images as it is.
