This work was created during the period when Saburōsuke Okada was studying abroad in Europe as the first Ministry of Education scholarship student. It is similar in atmosphere to 'Evening in Moudon' (1899), which is held by the University Art Museum of Tokyo University of the Arts, and may depict the same location. Unkempt trees, overgrown grass, and an ink-colored sky fill the canvas, revealing Okada's gaze that captures nature without embellishment.
