SATOMI Katsuzo
The House on the Sand Dunes

Houses with orange and red roofs set against an ochre ground. When Satomi traveled to Europe after World War II, he produced a number of paintings of the landscapes of the Spanish island of Ibiza, and this work is likely one in that series. While some of his works are more carefully drawn, this one is rough around the edges but powerful and conveys Satomi's passion.A layer of light blue paint is visible underneath, suggesting that this work was either painted over another painting or that the work was restarted after a period of interruption.
