SHONO Iho
Bright and clear

A summer afternoon. She lays down on a cushion against the threshold, her left elbow on the soft tatami, in a very relaxed position. The hand holding the fan is relaxed, the chin is slightly jutting out, and the focus of the gaze fixed on the Japanese bound book is questionable. The soft brushstrokes of the watercolors convey the loving depiction of a comfortable, almost sleepy feeling. Shono Iho (real name: Munenosuke) is little known today, but he was a painter active in Kyushu who studied under Asai Chu and had his works selected for exhibitions such as the Bunten Exhibition.
