WADA Sanzo
Chrysanthemum

This is a rare piece painted on three layers of Western paper. A faint pattern of a sideways vase can be seen on the right side of both sides. It can be seen that he originally painted the paintings in a horizontal composition, but then erased them and created a vertical still life. There is a slight sheen at the top, but the screen as a whole has almost no gloss.
Wada appears to have chosen to paint on paper in order to obtain the matte finish effect reminiscent of Japanese painting, while still taking advantage of the brushstrokes and texture of oil paints. The red-glazed vase, yellow chrysanthemums, and blue background show the attention to detail in the distribution of colors.
